Around ten individuals have been displaced from their residences following a fire that occurred on Saturday afternoon at a four-unit apartment complex in Windsor, N.S. Windsor Fire Department Chief Jamie Harvey reported that the fire erupted at approximately 2:30 p.m. AT at an apartment building situated on O’Brien Street, with no reported injuries.

Harvey mentioned that roughly 25 firefighters, including personnel from neighboring fire departments in Hantsport, Brooklyn, and Summerville, responded to the incident. Although the exact cause remains uncertain, authorities do not suspect any foul play. The fire is believed to have originated near an outdoor heat pump adjacent to the building.

Tenisha Hazel, a resident living closest to the heat pump where the fire originated, recounted that her stepdaughter was present when the fire broke out, hearing two loud bangs before the incident. Hazel shared that nearly all of their belongings, with the exception of her son’s cowboy boots, were either charred or damaged by smoke.

The apartment building accommodates around ten occupants, and displaced residents received aid from the Red Cross and a local organization known as the Posse Project. Hazel mentioned that she is presently staying with her parents following the incident.

While the fire was initially extinguished around 4 p.m., it briefly reignited around 6 p.m. but was promptly contained for good, as verified by Harvey. The affected building has since been secured with boards. There were initial concerns about the fire spreading to a nearby structure, but fortunately, this did not occur.
