Catherine O’Hara, known for her role as Moira Rose on “Schitt’s Creek,” is bidding farewell to the character after over six years. As the eccentric matriarch of the Rose family, O’Hara brought to life Moira’s extravagant style, unique language, and dramatic parenting on the hit comedy’s final season. In an interview with CBC’s Anna Maria Tremonti, O’Hara shared insights on her character, her fondness for Moira’s wardrobe, and the benefits of improv training.
The interview is part of Tremonti’s new podcast series, “More with Anna Maria Tremonti,” launching on Jan. 28. O’Hara expressed her reluctance to let go of Moira, admitting that she often finds herself responding to questions in character rather than as herself. Reflecting on her time with the show, O’Hara acknowledged her initial apprehension about committing to a long-running role but expressed gratitude for the joyful experience it turned out to be.
When asked about working with the Levy family, Eugene and Dan Levy, O’Hara praised their talent and professionalism. Recalling her experience shooting the pilot for “Schitt’s Creek,” she marveled at the growth of Dan Levy from a child actor on the set of “SCTV” to a co-star in the successful comedy series. O’Hara emphasized the sense of family and collaboration she has felt throughout her career, from Second City to her work with Eugene Levy and Chris Guest.
Despite her extensive career, O’Hara remains humble about her success, attributing it to luck and a supportive network of colleagues. She expressed a preference for collaborative work, highlighting the joy of being surrounded by talented individuals who share her passion for creativity. O’Hara’s openness to collaboration and her appreciation for the sense of belonging within a creative team underscore her enduring commitment to her craft.
