Russia carried out a significant drone and missile assault on Ukraine, resulting in the deaths of six individuals, including two children, according to Ukrainian authorities. The attack, which targeted Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, caused power outages across the country. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the assault, highlighting damages in various cities and regions.

In response, Zelenskyy called on the European Union, the United States, and the G7 nations to impose sanctions on Russia. Subsequently, the United States imposed sanctions on Russian oil companies Lukoil and Rosneft. The U.S. Treasury Department urged allies to join in implementing and adhering to these sanctions.

Furthermore, Ukraine’s air force reported that Russia launched 405 drones and 28 missiles, with Ukraine successfully intercepting some of them. In a retaliatory strike, Ukraine targeted a critical chemical plant in Russia’s Bryansk region. Tragically, casualties were reported, including the deaths of a woman and her two daughters in Kyiv.

The attacks extended to several Ukrainian cities, causing significant damage and casualties. Russia’s Defence Ministry claimed capturing Ukrainian territories and retaliated against Ukrainian energy infrastructure. Ukrainian authorities are assessing the aftermath of the attacks and planning repair work once security conditions allow.

Despite diplomatic efforts, including potential talks between Trump and Putin, uncertainties remain regarding a peaceful resolution. Zelenskyy expressed skepticism about Putin’s willingness to halt the conflict. Meanwhile, Ukraine aims to acquire Patriot air defense systems with assistance from international partners to bolster its defense capabilities.
