A 45-year-old woman was hospitalized following an assault by three dogs near a garage in Montreal’s Saint-Leonard borough on Wednesday morning. The incident was reported around 9:30 a.m. when the woman was found unconscious on the ground on du Creusot Street.

According to Montreal police spokesperson Raphaël Bergeron, the dogs emerged from an open or recently opened door and attacked the woman as she was approaching a mechanic’s garage. Witnesses, including Kudrus Ljika, who works nearby, heard the commotion and rushed to help. Ljika recounted that the dogs were aggressive and large, forcing them to seek refuge in a nearby vehicle.

Despite sustaining critical injuries, the victim was conscious when transported to the hospital. Police later confirmed that her life was not in immediate danger. A 42-year-old woman, potentially the owner of the dogs, attempted to separate the animals during the attack. Two of the dogs were euthanized on-site due to the perceived threat they posed.

The city of Montreal has a registry for dangerous dogs, established in 2018, but the dogs involved in this incident were not listed. This event serves as a stark reminder for pet owners to prioritize safety by keeping their dogs leashed and under control at all times. Public Security Minister Ian Lafrenière emphasized the importance of allowing the authorities to investigate the matter thoroughly before drawing conclusions.
