The Canadian ice hockey drama “Heated Rivalry” has been honored with a prestigious Peabody Award. The series, a collaboration between Crave, Bell Media, and HBO Max in the U.S., gained unexpected popularity following its launch in November 2025. It was recently recognized as one of the standout TV shows in the entertainment genre by the Peabody Awards panel.

According to the Peabody Awards jurors, “Heated Rivalry” skillfully navigates intricate themes of sexuality and emotional intimacy, resonating with audiences and advocating for healthy expressions of masculinity. The show, conceived by Montreal’s Jacob Tierney and adapted from novels by Halifax’s Rachel Reid, delves into a clandestine romance between fictional professional hockey players Shane Hollander (portrayed by Hudson Williams) and Ilya Rozanov (played by Connor Storrie).

Director-screenwriter Jacob Tierney, in conjunction with the show’s official Instagram account, expressed gratitude for the accolade, emphasizing the complexity and depth of the narrative. Author Rachel Reid also shared her pride in the project, adding a joyful tearful emoji to her comment.

The Directors Guild of Canada in Ontario took to Instagram to extend their congratulations to the production team, commending their efforts on the series. The 86th Annual Peabody Awards ceremony, where the winners will be celebrated, is scheduled to take place in Los Angeles on May 31.
