Nedra Talley Ross, the final surviving member of the 1960s iconic girl group the Ronettes, known for hits like “Be My Baby,” “Baby I Love You,” and “Walking in the Rain,” has passed away at the age of 80. Her daughter, Nedra K. Ross, confirmed her death at their residence on Sunday, as announced by both her family and the official Ronettes’ Instagram page.

Renowned for their captivating style and powerful vocals, coupled with the musical genius of Phil Spector, the Ronettes became a prominent presence in the girl-group era. Their fame extended to touring with the Rolling Stones in England and forming friendships with the Beatles.

In her Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction speech in 2007, Ross reflected on the highs and lows of show business, crediting their family’s support for providing stability in a chaotic world. She expressed gratitude for the unforgettable experiences they shared.

Originally from New York City, Ross, along with her sisters Veronica “Ronnie” and Estelle Bennett, released their debut album, “Presenting the Fabulous Ronettes, Featuring Veronica,” in 1964. The album featured five tracks that made it onto the U.S. Billboard charts and was later recognized in Rolling Stone’s list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.

Their musical journey commenced in March 1963 when they caught the attention of Phil Spector, leading to their signing with Philles Records and the recording of hits like “Be My Baby” and “Baby I Love You.” Despite their success, the group disbanded in 1967 as their string of hits dwindled.

Following the Ronettes’ breakup, Ross transitioned to Christian music, releasing the album “Full Circle” in 1978. She was married to DJ and TV personality Scott Ross until his passing in 2023. The group faced a prolonged legal battle with Spector over royalties, culminating in a court order for payment that was later overturned on appeal in 2002.

Ross, the last surviving Ronette, leaves behind a legacy in the music industry. Ronnie Spector passed away in 2022 at the age of 78, and Estelle Bennett in 2009 at 67. Nedra Talley Ross is survived by her four children.
