  • UPDATE | Jan. 23, 2026: Authorities in Toronto have pressed charges against a 93-year-old man, accusing him of three instances of reckless driving resulting in death or injury.

A tragic incident unfolded in Toronto on Wednesday as a vehicle collided with a business, resulting in a fatality, according to law enforcement officials.

Police swiftly reacted to the incident at approximately 2:28 p.m. in the vicinity of Dufferin Street and Finch Avenue W. following reports of a vehicle crashing into a building, as shared by Toronto police on social media.

During a press briefing at the scene, Inspector Jon Rose disclosed that the driver lost control in a parking lot, ultimately crashing into a nearby business and injuring three individuals inside.

One individual, who was trapped within the wreckage caused by the vehicle, succumbed to their injuries at the location. Emergency responders engaged in extensive efforts to extricate the victim from the debris, as stated by Rose.

Notification of the deceased’s relatives has been completed, he confirmed.

A female pedestrian was swiftly transported to the hospital through a trauma run, while another pedestrian received medical attention for injuries deemed non-life-threatening, as per police reports.

Authorities noted that the driver of the vehicle remained present at the scene. Both the driver and a passenger were subsequently taken to the hospital for minor injuries, according to law enforcement officials.

Inspector Rose emphasized that an active investigation into the incident is currently underway, urging any potential witnesses or individuals possessing dashcam footage to cooperate with the authorities.
