Blockbuster romance writer Carley Fortune has revealed that her upcoming novel, “Only in Summer,” is set to be launched on May 18, 2027. The novel will transport readers back to the familiar Barry’s Bay, Ont., known from her previous works, “Every Summer After” and “One Golden Summer,” as well as her childhood town.
In a recent newsletter announcement, Fortune shared her excitement about purchasing her own lakeside cottage near Barry’s Bay, fulfilling a long-held dream since her family home beside the lake was sold. The main character in “Only in Summer,” Eleanor Florek, also harbors the same aspiration.
Eleanor, lovingly called Ellie, is the cousin of Charlie and Sam from Fortune’s earlier Barry’s Bay tales. Growing up in Barry’s Bay, Ellie always dreamed of owning a property there. However, her plans take an unexpected turn when she discovers that the small neighboring house is being torn down for a grand mansion by its new attractive owner.
While the plot details remain mostly undisclosed, one can anticipate a blossoming romance amidst the picturesque lakeside backdrop. Fortune, a writer and journalist based in Toronto, has an impressive editorial background with Refinery29, The Globe and Mail, Chatelaine, and Toronto Life. Her repertoire includes acclaimed books like “Our Perfect Storm,” “One Golden Summer,” “Every Summer After,” “This Summer Will Be Different,” and “Meet Me at the Lake.”
“Meet Me at the Lake” was a notable finalist on Canada Reads in 2024, championed by fashion influencer Mirian Njoh, marking the first romance novel on the show. “Every Summer After” was adapted into the Amazon Prime Video series “Every Year After,” renewed for a second season, inspired by “One Golden Summer.” Additionally, Netflix Canada is in the process of adapting “This Summer Will Be Different” into a 10-episode series.
