Actor Kiefer Sutherland was taken into custody early Monday following an alleged assault on a ride-hail driver in Los Angeles, as reported by authorities. The incident occurred shortly after midnight near Sunset Boulevard and Fairfax Ave., just south of Hollywood Hills.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the 59-year-old Emmy award-winning Canadian actor reportedly physically attacked the driver and made criminal threats towards them after entering the ride-hail vehicle. Fortunately, the driver did not sustain any injuries requiring medical attention at the time.
Sutherland was arrested on suspicion of criminal threats and later released on a $50,000 US bond from jail a few hours after the incident. His initial court appearance is scheduled for Feb. 2. Attempts to obtain a comment from Sutherland’s representatives went unanswered.
Best known for his iconic role as federal agent Jack Bauer in the TV series “24” and its spinoffs, Sutherland has also appeared in notable films such as “The Lost Boys,” “Young Guns,” “Stand by Me,” and “A Few Good Men.” He hails from a family of actors, being the son of Donald Sutherland and Shirley Douglas, and the grandson of former Saskatchewan premier Tommy Douglas, recognized for his contributions to universal healthcare in Canada.
