The Canadian federal government has allocated over $1 billion to Canada Post in the form of a repayable loan to aid the struggling Crown corporation in staying financially stable and maintaining its operations. This financial assistance, described as a short-term bridge, is in addition to the $1.03 billion previously announced in January 2025.

Public Services and Procurement Canada emphasized the necessity of a clear plan to restore long-term stability for Canada Post, stating that despite its mandate for financial self-sustainability, the corporation has faced significant losses. The government’s intervention aims to ensure ongoing service provision while the organization implements reforms for future viability.

Canada Post had earlier indicated the need for immediate financial support, as the previously allocated funds were projected to be depleted before the fiscal year’s end in March 2025. The corporation highlighted ongoing financial difficulties and shared that it has submitted a transformation plan to the government for review and approval.

In response, Canada Post reiterated its commitment to addressing financial challenges and delivering essential services in a sustainable manner through the proposed transformation plan. The corporation is actively engaging in finalizing the plan to secure its long-term financial health.
