Latifah Abdu and Jessica De Filippo found the back of the net to secure a 2-0 victory for Vancouver Rise FC over Ottawa Rapid FC in Desiree Scott’s final regular-season home game. Scott, a prominent midfielder for the Canadian women’s national team, known by the nickname “The Destroyer,” is set to retire at the conclusion of the season after playing for Ottawa in the league’s inaugural season.
Before the match, Ottawa Mayor Mark Sutcliffe declared October 8 as Desiree Scott Day, with 2,906 fans at TD Place sporting pink headbands in her honor. Expressing her gratitude, the 38-year-old Scott remarked on the unexpected grandeur of the celebration, emphasizing her appreciation for the fans and the club’s gesture. She highlighted the privilege of contributing to the league’s establishment and specifically doing so with Ottawa Rapid.
Despite bidding farewell to her regular-season home games, Scott’s career is not yet concluded. Ottawa Rapid FC will conclude their regular season against Halifax Tides FC on the road. The team has already secured a playoff berth and is currently tied for second place with Montreal and Vancouver, each boasting 36 points in the standings.
