A man and his son traveled from Saskatoon to Toronto, covering over 2,000 kilometers to witness the Toronto Blue Jays facing the Seattle Mariners in the American League Championship Series (ALCS) on Sunday night. This game marked the Blue Jays’ return to the ALCS since their defeat in 2016 against the Cleveland Guardians.

Rhett Sangster, a devoted baseball enthusiast, and his son Kai decided spontaneously last Thursday to attend the rare Blue Jays game, as the team’s playoff appearances are infrequent. Sangster shared that the idea stemmed from discussions with his wife about a special trip for their son, making this game an ideal opportunity.

The duo embarked on a 33-hour road trip to Toronto, opting for a van journey over flying to enjoy quality time together. They made stops for rest in Winnipeg, Thunder Bay, and Sault St. Marie, before finally reaching Toronto on Sunday night for the game.

Using creative sleeping arrangements in the van, Sangster and Kai managed to save money along the way. The ALCS Game 1 started with a bang as George Springer of the Blue Jays hit a solo home run in the first inning, giving the team an early lead. Despite the excitement, the Blue Jays ultimately lost 3-1 to the Mariners.

Kai expressed his delight at watching the game live, highlighting the vibrant atmosphere at Toronto’s Roger’s Centre, especially after Springer’s historic home run. Although the outcome was not as expected, both Sangster and Kai emphasized the value of spending time together and creating lasting memories.

The series against the Seattle Mariners continues with Game 2 at the Rogers Centre before moving to Seattle for Game 3. The father-son duo’s journey from Saskatoon to Toronto for this memorable baseball experience has captured the essence of bonding over shared passions and creating cherished moments.
