Fresh from the triumph of his TV adaptation of “Heated Rivalry,” Jacob Tierney is embarking on a new venture based on a Canadian literary gem. Netflix has revealed that Tierney will be the writer, director, and executive producer of “Alexander,” a series derived from Annabel Lyon’s 2009 novel “The Golden Mean.”

Set in fourth-century BC Greece, “Alexander” delves into the dynamic relationship between Aristotle and the spirited young prince, Alexander the Great. Lyon’s novel, which garnered critical acclaim and nominations for prestigious literary awards, serves as the inspiration for this upcoming series.

Expressing his long-standing passion for Lyon’s work, Tierney stated, “I fell in love with Annabel Lyon’s book ‘The Golden Mean’ years ago and have been dreaming of telling this story ever since.” Lyon revealed that Tierney had approached her about adapting the novel back in 2014, demonstrating unwavering commitment to the project.

For enthusiasts of “Heated Rivalry,” Tierney’s latest endeavor may resonate. Following the success of bringing Rachel Reid’s “Game Changers” series to television with “Heated Rivalry,” Tierney has solidified his position as a prominent figure in TV production.

Jinny Howe, Netflix’s head of scripted U.S. and Canadian series, commended Tierney’s creative prowess, describing “Alexander” as a reimagining of the timeless mentor-protégé power struggle infused with a modern sensibility.

Joining the production team as executive producers are Brendan Brady, who collaborated on “Heated Rivalry,” along with Michael Costigan and Jason Bateman of Aggregate Films. Lyon, who will offer consultation on the project, expressed confidence in Tierney’s ability to capture the essence of her novel.

Reflecting on the adaptation process, Lyon emphasized the enduring relevance of themes such as ambition, greed, war, and love present in her book. She underscored the significance of bringing her story to life 17 years after its initial publication, aiming to resonate with audiences across different eras.

The collaboration between Tierney and Lyon promises to deliver a compelling narrative that transcends time, offering viewers a poignant reflection on the human experience through the lens of historical fiction.
