The Canadian Screen Awards will recognize actor Mike Myers, sportscaster Hazel Mae, and others during Canadian Screen Week this year. Myers, Mae, Canadian Film Centre’s executive director Maxine Bailey, and filmmaker Chandler Levack’s film “Mile End Kicks” will be honored for their significant impact on film and television. Tammy Frick, CEO of the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television, expressed excitement about celebrating these individuals, highlighting their contributions that inspire future storytellers and showcase Canada’s talent in the screen arts globally.

Canadian Screen Week is scheduled to take place in Toronto from May 27 to May 31, culminating in the Canadian Screen Awards ceremony honoring outstanding achievements in Canadian cinema, television, and digital media.

Mike Myers, known for his roles in “Saturday Night Live,” “Austin Powers,” and “Shrek,” will receive the Academy Icon Award this year for his exceptional and continuous contributions to the media industry. The Canadian Academy praised Myers as one of the most versatile performers of his generation, with a prolific career spanning over 80 film and television credits as an actor, writer, producer, and director. Myers recently made headlines for his appearances on “SNL,” where he expressed his Canadian pride amid political tensions.

Hazel Mae, a prominent figure in Canadian sportscasting, will be honored with the Gordon Sinclair Award for Broadcast Journalism for her outstanding work. Mae, who covered the Toronto Blue Jays’ journey in the World Series, captured the highs and lows of the team’s performance, earning accolades for her sports reporting. Additionally, Maxine Bailey will receive the Changemaker Award for her efforts in promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in Canadian media through her work at the Canadian Film Centre.

Chandler Levack’s film “Mile End Kicks” is being recognized with the Sustainable Production Award for its commitment to environmental sustainability in both production practices and storytelling. The film, set in Montreal’s music scene, showcases a model of meaningful environmental leadership by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and promoting sustainable practices throughout its production process.

The Canadian Screen Awards ceremony, hosted by actor Andrew Phung, will be broadcast on CBC on May 31 at 8 p.m. ET. The event will also be available for streaming on CBC Gem, CTV, Crave, Global, and STACKTV.
