At the 32nd Actor Awards held by the Screen Actors Guild on Sunday, the ensemble cast of “Sinners” emerged victorious, breaking the streak of wins by “One Battle After Another.” This win positions “Sinners” as a strong contender for the upcoming Academy Awards, creating anticipation for a thrilling finale in two weeks.

The Screen Actors Guild Awards, formerly known as the SAG Awards, are closely monitored as a precursor to the Oscars. Given that actors form a significant portion of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, their preferences at the Actor Awards often mirror those at the Oscars.

Ryan Coogler’s vampire saga, “Sinners,” claimed the spotlight at the awards ceremony, hinting at its potential success at the Oscars despite “One Battle After Another” sweeping several accolades, including top honors at the Golden Globes, Producers Guild Awards, BAFTAs, and Directors Guild Awards.

During the Netflix-streamed event at the Shine Auditorium in Los Angeles, Delroy Lindo expressed gratitude on behalf of the cast, acknowledging the support received. The unexpected win of Michael B. Jordan as best male actor, surpassing the favored Timothee Chalamet, marked a significant milestone in Jordan’s career, leaving both him and the audience astonished.

Jessie Buckley secured the best female actor award for her role in “Hamnet,” while other acting categories saw competitive races. Sean Penn clinched best supporting male actor for “One Battle After Another,” and Amy Madigan, in a surprising turn, won best supporting female actor for “Weapons.”

The late Catherine O’Hara was posthumously honored as the best female actor in a comedy series for her role in the showbiz satire “The Studio.” Seth Rogen, co-creator of the series, accepted the award on her behalf, reminiscing about O’Hara’s dedication and talent, emphasizing her impact in the industry.

The ceremony, streamed live on Netflix and hosted by Kristen Bell, commenced on a lively note despite the backdrop of global events. Noteworthy wins included Keri Russell, Michelle Williams, and Noah Wyle, among others, in various categories.

Harrison Ford received the esteemed SAG-AFTRA Life Achievement Award, presented with humor by Woody Harrelson. Ford, visibly moved, reflected on his career, expressing gratitude for the recognition and acknowledging the influence of his peers in shaping his journey in the industry.
