More than a dozen individuals have submitted their candidacies to vie for the position to represent residents of Ward 2, located in the western part of Windsor. This follows the departure of Coun. Fabio Costante, who had been the area’s representative since 2018 but resigned to assume leadership of the region’s social housing agency.

Ward 2 covers a significant area that includes Sandwich Town and other sections of western Windsor. The upcoming term will be short, lasting only a year. The elected candidate will face another election in the autumn of 2026, coinciding with the general municipal elections in Windsor and throughout the province.

The by-election is scheduled for Monday, October 27, with polling stations open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. ET. Advance voting options are available on Friday, October 18, and Saturday, October 19, during the same hours.

Fifteen candidates have officially registered for the election, with the deadline for candidacy declarations now closed. The city’s official website provides contact details, websites, and social media links for all candidates. CBC Windsor has sent questionnaires to the candidates to gather their stances on key issues, with results set to be shared closer to the by-election date.

Voting locations on election day include seven sites across the ward, with additional polling stations available for residents at Cardinal Place Rest Home and Chateau Park Long Term Care Centre. Free Transit Windsor rides are offered on election day and advance voting days for voters traveling to the polls.

To be eligible to vote, individuals must be Canadian citizens aged 18 or older on election day and reside in Ward 2, own or rent property within the ward, or be married to a property owner or tenant. In light of the ongoing Canada Post mail disruption, voter information cards will not be sent, and voters must bring identification to prove their identity and address, such as a driver’s license, utility bill, or government-issued ID.

Ward 2, situated in Windsor’s western region, is demarcated by Ojibway Parkway, Riverside Drive, Huron Church Road, and Tecumseh Road West.
