Geneviève Gros-Louis, a talented violinist and composer hailing from the Huron-Wendat Nation of Wendake near Quebec City, finds solace in her music, connecting deeply with her ancestral roots. After a decade of performing with orchestras post her violin studies at McGill University, Gros-Louis delved into composing during the pandemic-induced show cancellations, gaining global recognition for her works.

Her projects have taken her to prestigious platforms like Paris Fashion Week, National Geographic, and the Cannes Film Festival, where she showcased her original score ahead of Martin Scorsese’s film premiere. Drawing from her heritage, Gros-Louis incorporates traditional social songs from her upbringing into her music, aiming to preserve and modernize these cultural treasures for future generations.

Collaborating with her community on an upcoming album, Gros-Louis plans to release the music within six months, aiming to make traditional songs more accessible and enjoyable for all. By infusing her Indigenous culture into her compositions, she has found a profound way to express herself authentically, resonating with audiences and critics alike.

Artistic director Richard Aubé, impressed by Gros-Louis’s innovative approach, praises her unique creativity and the depth of emotions conveyed through her music. Gros-Louis reflects on her journey, from crafting a makeshift violin as a child to recording at Abbey Road Studios for a project with the Audio Network, expressing gratitude for the opportunities to showcase her culture on global stages.

Her mother, Josée Gros-Louis, recalls how Geneviève’s early passion for the violin led to her remarkable musical career, emphasizing pride in her daughter’s achievements. Geneviève’s commitment to blending tradition with modernity in her compositions continues to captivate audiences and inspire future generations.
