Spotify’s Brief Disco Ball Logo Sparks Backlash Among Users
A surprising number of Spotify users are not fans of the recent temporary change to the app’s logo. The switch from the usual green-and-black icon to a glitzy 3D disco ball in celebration of the company’s 20th anniversary has triggered a wave of negative reactions online.
Many disgruntled users have likened the change to controversial topics like pineapple on pizza or the word “moist.” Criticisms range from calling the 3D logo unattractive to pointing out its pixelated appearance, with some even going as far as demanding the removal of the designer responsible for it. One user expressed their frustration by stating that the alteration made them consider uninstalling Spotify.
Despite the uproar, a counter-response emerged accusing the critics of being overly critical and lamenting a broader trend towards minimalistic design. Other brands’ social media managers also joined in, creating their own disco ball-inspired logos to playfully engage in the conversation.
In response to complaints about readability and brand consistency, Spotify clarified that the flashy logo is only temporary. A company spokesperson reassured users that the regular icon will be reinstated once the anniversary festivities are over.
Acknowledging the mixed reactions, Spotify admitted that glittery aesthetics may not appeal to everyone. The company assured users that the temporary logo will be swapped back to the original design in the coming week.
