A woman from Nova Scotia has come forward alleging she was a victim of sexual assault by Corey Fitzgerald White in Chester Basin, N.S. White, 55, is facing historical sexual assault charges dating back almost 22 years. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) have indicated that there may be more victims not only in Nova Scotia but also in Newfoundland, Ontario, and Alberta.
The woman, whose identity is protected, revealed that she initially reported the assault five years ago but did not pursue the complaint at that time. She explained that she finally felt prepared to speak out earlier this year, emphasizing the challenges she faced as a child due to the lack of a safe environment to come forward.
Expressing her frustration and anger, the woman mentioned that when she first disclosed the assault, she was not believed by White’s family members. This disbelief and lack of support fueled her decision to reopen her complaint. In a separate case in Newfoundland, White faces charges of sexual assault involving two 16-year-old girls.
Similarly, a mother from the Newfoundland case spoke out, stating her determination to seek justice for her daughter. She highlighted the significant impact the incident had on their family, affecting various aspects of their lives.
Despite the initial lack of support, the Nova Scotia woman now feels validated and supported by people across Canada. She has become a source of support for other sexual assault victims, sharing stories and offering assistance.
Subsequently, White faces additional charges in Nova Scotia for breaching release conditions, break and enter, and mischief. He is set to appear in court to answer to all charges. The court date for the sexual assault charges in Newfoundland is scheduled for December 10. It is important to note that none of the allegations have been proven in court yet.
