Jesse Compher scored her first two goals of the season, securing a late third-period goal to lead the Toronto Sceptres to a 4-3 victory over New York on Sunday. This countered a two-goal performance by the Sirens’ Kristyna Kaltounkova, the top pick in this year’s draft.
Compher opened the scoring for the Sceptres at 9:19 in the first period, assisted by Allie Munroe and Maggie Connors, giving Toronto a 1-0 lead. Later in the game, she extended the lead to 4-2 by capitalizing on a pass from Claire Dalton and scoring with just 1:37 remaining at Prudential Center in Newark, N.J.
The decisive goal came after Taylor Girard found the net 21 seconds later for the Sirens. Girard’s goal marked her fourth of the season, with Maddi Wheeler adding her fourth assist.
Kaltounkova, the first overall pick in the 2025 draft from Colgate University and the Czech Republic, equalized the score at 1-1 with 2:23 left in the first period, assisted by Sarah Fillier and Anne Cherkowski.
Blayre Turnbull then put the Sceptres back in the lead with an unassisted goal less than two minutes into the second period. Kaltounkova responded with her third goal of the season, assisted by Casey O’Brien and Maja Nylen Persson on a power play, tying the game at 2-2.
Toronto reclaimed the lead 1:19 later when Emma Maltais scored her first goal of the season with an assist from Daryl Watts.
Elaine Chuli made 37 saves for Toronto, while Kayle Osborne turned away 23 shots for New York.
The Toronto Sceptres will next host Ottawa on Tuesday, while New York will face Seattle at the American Airlines Center in Dallas on Sunday as part of the Takeover Tour.
