A man aged 45 from Simcoe faces two first-degree murder charges in relation to a homicide inquiry initiated in October, as per the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP). Barbara Morgan, aged 71, was discovered deceased at a residence on Head Street South in Simcoe on October 5. A post-mortem examination confirmed the death as a homicide. Justin Morgan, the son of the deceased, also residing in Simcoe, was apprehended on October 10 and charged with second-degree murder by the police.
On the same day, officers carried out a search at a residence on Stanley Street in Simcoe due to concerns about the whereabouts of Robert Sykes, aged 49, who had last been seen on Head Street South on October 4. Human remains were found by investigators on October 16 in the vicinity west of Caledonia and south of Stirling Street in Haldimand County. The Ontario Forensic Pathology Service later identified the remains as those of Sykes.
The authorities reported that Morgan has now been accused of first-degree murder on Thursday, with the previous second-degree murder charge being elevated to first-degree murder. The suspect is currently in detention and was set to appear in front of the Ontario Court of Justice in Simcoe on Friday, according to the police.
