Former Toronto Mayor John Tory has been appointed as the new chair of the board of directors for the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). Tory expressed his enthusiasm for collaborating with TIFF’s board, leaders, artists, filmmakers, and the wider TIFF community to influence its future direction. His term officially commences on October 1, as outlined in a recent news release. The festival is scheduled to take place from September 10 to 20 this year. Tory takes over from Jeffrey Remedios, who held the chair position since 2021. Remedios commended TIFF and its leadership, stating his enduring pride in his contribution to the festival’s growth. Additionally, TIFF welcomed three new board members, Deborah Flint, David Furnish, and Daniel Tisch Echevarría, while bidding farewell to Asha Daniere after her nine-year tenure on the board, expressing gratitude for her service and dedication.
