Alanis Morissette has filed a lawsuit against her former tour manager, accusing her of engaging in what she describes as a deliberate blackmail scheme to implicate Morissette in drug trafficking unless she agreed to hire her for an extended contract. The Canadian singer-songwriter lodged the lawsuit in California, alleging that Keren Urinov threatened to report her for drug trafficking to British authorities unless Morissette agreed to employ her as a tour director for 15 years and provide substantial compensation.
Morissette is pursuing legal action against Urinov for civil extortion, fraud, and negligent misrepresentation, asserting that she will not succumb to the coercion tactics and is taking legal steps to expose Urinov’s scheme and hold her accountable.
The incident dates back to 2025 when Urinov, previously associated with Live Nation’s Israeli operations, was hired temporarily as a tour manager for Morissette’s global tour. Allegedly, during a trip from the U.K. to Spain for a concert, Urinov was arrested by British Border Force officials at the airport after a bag she claimed ownership of was flagged for containing marijuana and xylazine, a non-opioid animal tranquilizer. Subsequently, Urinov was released after revealing her Israeli medical marijuana license to the authorities.
Following the tour, Urinov reportedly sent a series of threatening letters to Morissette and her team, demanding a fixed 15-year contract as a tour director with significant financial benefits. Among the claims, Urinov insisted on obtaining a work visa for the United States, failing which she demanded higher pay.
Morissette’s lawsuit further outlines instances where Urinov’s management during the 2025 tour was deemed inadequate, including a costly error with a hotel booking and undisclosed past criminal activities involving drug smuggling in Latin America. Despite her reluctance, Morissette felt compelled to take legal action against Urinov, emphasizing her refusal to collaborate with an incompetent individual attempting to extort her over an extended period.
Morissette is seeking a jury trial for the matter, while no response has been received from Urinov or Morissette’s representatives as of now.
