A young man who appeared on Survivor Greece is taking legal action against the show’s creators after a tragic boating incident resulted in the loss of his leg. Stavros Floros, now 22, filed a $100 million lawsuit in a Florida court following the accident during Season 13 of the show.
Court documents revealed that Floros was spearfishing off the coast of the Dominican Republic on May 11 when a tourist boat collided with him, causing severe injuries to both of his legs. He was promptly taken for medical treatment in Miami, where he underwent extensive surgeries and a lengthy recovery period.
TMZ published distressing images of Floros post-accident, showcasing the severity of his injuries. Survivor Greece’s broadcaster, Skai TV, temporarily halted the show and offered assistance to Floros, despite the production being under the responsibility of AcunMedya, a Turkish company.
In his statement to TheWrap, Floros expressed disappointment in the lack of support he received from the production team, citing the life-altering consequences of the incident. The lawsuit targets AcunMedya, Acun LLC, Turkish businessman Acun Ilicali, and Skai TV’s parent company as defendants.
Floros and fellow cast members detailed the events leading up to the accident, highlighting the absence of safety measures despite the known risks of boat traffic in the area. The lawsuit alleges negligence on the part of the production for failing to ensure contestant safety during non-competition activities.
Floros expressed his disillusionment with the situation, questioning if such drastic consequences were warranted for a reality TV show. Survivor Greece, unrelated to the popular U.S. series, has faced scrutiny over the incident, with Floros’s legal team emphasizing the ties of the defendants to Florida in their case.
Despite efforts to reach AcunMedya for comment, no response was received. The production company is known for its involvement in various international versions of the Survivor franchise.
