Amazon has announced a 3.5 percent fuel surcharge on fulfillment fees for sellers in Canada and the U.S. The surcharge will first affect sellers using the Fulfillment by Amazon program, starting on April 17. Additionally, sellers utilizing the Multi-Channel Fulfillment program will see the surcharge implemented starting on May 2. This move comes as a response to increased fuel and logistics costs in the industry. Amazon stated that they have absorbed these cost hikes so far but are now implementing temporary surcharges to partially offset them, similar to other major carriers. The company emphasized its dedication to supporting its selling partners’ success and maintaining a wide selection and competitive prices for customers. In light of a global energy crisis triggered by events such as the U.S. and Israel’s actions against Iran and Iran’s subsequent closure of the Strait of Hormuz, several companies offering consumer services have introduced fuel surcharges to their pricing structures.
