The Women’s Professional Baseball League unveiled the four cities that will host the inaugural season teams: New York, Boston, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. Justine Siegal, co-founder of the league and the first female coach in MLB history with the Oakland Athletics in 2015, announced plans last year to launch the league in 2026 with six teams, including a regular season, playoffs, and an all-star game.
This upcoming league marks the first professional women’s baseball league since the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League disbanded in 1954, famously depicted in “A League of Their Own.” The WPBL will kick off with four teams, each comprising 15 players. The league’s draft next month will feature top talent, including renowned players like Mo’ne Davis, Kelsie Whitmore from USA baseball, and Japanese pitcher Ayami Sato.
All games in the 2026 season will be held at a neutral venue, with the specific location set to be revealed later. The selection of New York, Boston, Los Angeles, and San Francisco as host cities was based on their market size and strong fan support. Justine Siegal expressed excitement about connecting with fans in these historically significant sports cities and baseball enthusiasts nationwide.
