Legendary Entertainment and Scholastic Entertainment have announced a partnership to bring the beloved children’s book series, “The Magic School Bus,” to life on the big screen. Elizabeth Banks will star as the quirky and adventurous Ms. Frizzle in the live-action adaptation. Banks will also produce the film along with director and writer Rob Letterman.

“The Magic School Bus,” created by Joanna Cole and illustrated by Bruce Degen, has been entertaining and educating children for 40 years, selling over 90 million books worldwide. The series follows Ms. Frizzle as she takes her students on magical field trips in a shape-shifting school bus, blending science and fun.

The franchise’s popularity has soared since its debut in 1986, with adaptations across television and digital platforms. The animated series on PBS, featuring Lily Tomlin as Ms. Frizzle, became a hit in over 100 countries. Netflix later launched “The Magic School Bus Rides Again,” with Tomlin reprising her role alongside Kate McKinnon.

Elizabeth Banks’ involvement with “The Magic School Bus” dates back to 2020 when she was initially linked to the project under Universal Pictures. Following a transition to Legendary Entertainment, Banks is now set to bring the iconic character to life on the silver screen.
