Canada’s Victoria Mboko clinched victory over Spain’s Cristina Bucsa with a score of 7-5, 6-7 (9), 6-2 at the Hong Kong Open on Sunday. The 19-year-old, hailing from Burlington, Ont., secured her second WTA title this season, following her win at the National Bank Open in Montreal back in August. Reflecting on her triumph, Mboko expressed her satisfaction with ending the season on a high note, emphasizing the importance of staying composed and managing expectations in the competitive tennis landscape.

Mboko, now boasting a 2-0 record against Bucsa, had previously defeated her in straight sets during Rome qualifying earlier in the year. Despite facing a tough challenge from Bucsa, Mboko remained resilient and focused throughout the match, ultimately prevailing in the deciding set. The young Canadian player acknowledged the setback of losing the second set but highlighted the importance of regrouping and maintaining a positive mindset to secure the victory.

Having also advanced to the final by defeating Leylah Fernandez in a thrilling three-set encounter, Mboko showcased her determination and skill on the court. Overcoming a wrist injury that briefly disrupted her progress in Montreal, she is poised to climb into the top 20 rankings when the latest WTA standings are revealed next week.
