A recent drone strike carried out by Russia in Odesa, a Black Sea port in Ukraine, resulted in the tragic deaths of a 30-year-old woman, her two-year-old daughter, and another woman. The attack also caused significant damage to residential buildings and energy infrastructure, as reported by the regional governor.

Oleh Kiper, the regional governor of Odesa, stated on the Telegram app that the city faced a severe assault by the enemy during the night. He mentioned that 16 individuals, including a pregnant woman and two young children, sustained injuries in the attack. Ukrainian officials confirmed that residential buildings, energy infrastructure, and a kindergarten were among the targets hit.

According to DTEK, an energy company, approximately 16,700 households in various districts of Odesa were left without electricity due to the extensive damage caused by the attack. The company warned that repairing the infrastructure would require a significant amount of time.

Footage from Reuters showed rescue teams and firefighters working to clear debris at a residential building that bore the brunt of the strike. A resident named Danylo, residing in the damaged house, described how two drones struck the roof and central part of the building, causing the staircase to collapse and obstructing their exit.

As the conflict enters its fifth year, Moscow has intensified its assaults on Odesa, a crucial logistical center in southern Ukraine and the nation’s primary port for handling grain and other maritime exports.

In a social media post, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy disclosed that Russia had launched 140 drones in overnight attacks on Ukraine, targeting energy infrastructure in the Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, and Dnipro regions. Zelenskyy emphasized the urgent need for enhanced air defense capabilities, noting that Russia shows no signs of halting its aggressive actions.

The ongoing conflict has witnessed a significant increase in drone attacks, with over 2,800 attack drones deployed in the past week, along with nearly 1,350 guided aerial bombs and more than 40 missiles of various types.

The devastating consequences of the drone strike underscore the escalating tensions and human cost of the conflict in Ukraine.
