A fatal incident occurred during a residential fire in the northern part of Fredericton on Tuesday night. The blaze heavily consumed the two-story residence on Barton Crescent, with firefighters arriving at the scene just before 8 p.m.

Chief Dwayne Killingbeck of the Fredericton Fire Department stated that upon arrival, the structure was already engulfed in flames, necessitating a swift response from the fire crews. Despite the intense fire conditions, the team managed to swiftly enter the premises and locate an individual near the front door. The victim, the sole occupant of the house at the time, succumbed to injuries after being transported to the hospital. Details regarding the individual’s identity remain undisclosed.

Following a thorough search of the property, firefighters confirmed that there were no other individuals inside the house. A total of 23 firefighters collaborated to extinguish the fire efficiently within an hour, focusing on both the primary living areas and the attic where the fire had also spread.

The cause of the fire remains unknown and is currently under investigation by the relevant authorities.
