An unusual cat up for adoption in Alabama is garnering attention due to its unique feature of having two extra ears. Stephanie Brown, who is currently caring for the special feline named Dobby, described the additional earflaps as smaller and located in front of the regular ears, almost appearing backwards. According to Brown, these extra earflaps do not pose any issues or discomfort and do not affect the cat’s hearing, as they are simply additional skin flaps.

Brown, based in Pelham, Alabama, shared that veterinarians informed her that this genetic mutation seen in Dobby is exceptionally rare. The Kitty Cat Haven and Rescue shelter, corroborating Brown’s account, mentioned in an email statement to CBC Radio that Dobby’s condition is a first for them, despite having rescued over 6,800 cats and kittens since 2017.

The backstory of Dobby’s journey to adoption began when his previous owners posted about him on Facebook, citing difficulties in getting along with their other cat. Named after the house elf in the Harry Potter series due to his distinctive ears, Dobby also stands out for being born with a short, curled tail and a severe underbite requiring surgery.

Despite these challenges, Brown highlighted the overwhelming interest in adopting Dobby, with numerous requests pouring in. However, she noted that Dobby is not yet ready for adoption, as he is scheduled for dental surgery in April. Brown expressed confidence that finding a loving home for Dobby post-surgery will not be a problem.

Regarding concerns about Dobby’s extra set of ears, the veterinarian reassured that they are not anticipated to cause any future complications. Brown emphasized her desire for Dobby to keep his unique ears, believing they add to his charm and individuality.

Stephanie Brown, who began fostering animals with her husband in 2020, shared the fulfilling yet challenging experience of caring for these animals, underscoring their commitment to fostering. Despite already having a full household with several pets and a young daughter, Brown admitted being tempted to adopt Dobby herself, although she remains undecided for now.
