Atlético Ottawa secures a place in the Canadian Premier League final following a remarkable 2-1 comeback victory against Forge FC on Sunday. The triumph on the road at Hamilton Stadium during the CPL’s championship semifinal guarantees Atlético a decisive showdown at TD Place on November 9.
Despite finishing just two points behind Ottawa in the CPL standings, Forge FC, who topped the table, still has a chance to reach the final by winning the contender semifinal next weekend.
In the match on Sunday, Forge FC took the lead in the 23rd minute through a goal by David Choinière. However, Ottawa leveled the score ten minutes later with Gabriel Antinoro finding the back of the net. Early in the second half, Atlético’s striker Sam Salter, the record-holder for most goals scored in a CPL season, sealed the victory with a crucial header.
Having faced each other four times in the regular season, with three draws and one win for Forge FC, the upcoming final promises to be a thrilling encounter between the two clubs.
