The Canadian government has green-lighted $76 million in emergency support for Flair Airlines to alleviate the financial strain caused by the steep rise in jet fuel costs. Flair CEO Len Corrado emphasized in an interview that this funding demonstrates the government’s acknowledgment of the significant challenges facing the industry and its commitment to maintaining competitiveness.

Canada Enterprise Emergency Funding Corp. has authorized bailout loans to help offset the surging fuel expenses and enhance the affordability of air travel. The terms of the loan require repayment within four years, with interest rates below the current market rates.

Amidst the escalation in energy prices due to the Iran conflict since late February, Air Transat’s parent company, Transat A.T. Inc., has secured $430 million in financial assistance. This surge in fuel costs has led to a doubling of jet fuel prices compared to a year ago.

Furthermore, Porter Airlines recently benefited from a $125 million bailout loan, as confirmed by government sources.
