Franjo von Allmen has achieved a remarkable feat by securing his third Olympic gold medal during the Milano-Cortina Winter Games. The Swiss alpine skier triumphed in the super-G event on Wednesday, clocking a time of 1:25.32 along the Stelvio course. He edged out American Ryan Cochran-Siegle, who took the silver medal, by a mere 0.13 seconds. Swiss skier Marco Odermatt claimed the bronze.
Von Allmen now joins an exclusive group of male alpine skiers who have won three gold medals at a single Winter Olympics. The only other athletes to accomplish this feat are Jean-Claude Killy of France at the 1968 Grenoble Games and Austrian Anton “Toni” Sailer at the 1956 Winter Games in Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy.
In addition to his super-G victory, the 24-year-old von Allmen previously secured gold in the downhill event and also emerged victorious in the team combined event alongside Tanguy Nef.
Canadian skiers also showcased their talents at the super-G event, with Jack Crawford from Toronto finishing as the top Canadian in 16th place. Cam Alexander of North Vancouver tied for 17th, while Brodie Seger, also from North Vancouver, finished 22nd. Unfortunately, Riley Seger did not complete the race.
