Israeli airstrikes targeted Gaza on Tuesday, resulting in the deaths of at least 26 individuals, following accusations from Israel against Hamas for breaching a ceasefire in the Palestinian region. The recent incident challenges a delicate agreement facilitated earlier by U.S. President Donald Trump.

Reports from local health officials indicated that the casualties included five individuals in a residence struck in the Bureij refugee camp, four in a building in Gaza City’s Sabra neighborhood, and five in a vehicle in Khan Younis, which included two children. Witnesses observed ongoing Israeli airstrikes in various parts of Gaza, including Gaza City.

While an official statement from Netanyahu’s office did not specify the motive behind the airstrikes, an Israeli military representative mentioned that Hamas had violated the ceasefire by launching an attack against Israeli forces in an area under Israeli jurisdiction.

Israeli media initially reported clashes between Israeli forces and Hamas combatants in Rafah, but Hamas denied involvement in the assault on Israeli forces. President Trump, aboard Air Force One en route to South Korea, assured that the U.S.-backed ceasefire remained secure.

The ceasefire agreement, established to end a protracted conflict, involved the release of living captives by Hamas in exchange for Palestinian prisoners and detainees held by Israel. As part of the deal, Hamas agreed to hand over the remains of deceased hostages, a process that has encountered challenges due to the scale of destruction in Gaza.

Israeli authorities accused Hamas of deceitfully handling the remains of an Israeli individual killed in a prior attack, alleging that Hamas staged a discovery to mislead rescue efforts. The search for these remains has intensified with the assistance of heavy equipment brought in from Egypt.

The ongoing conflict has resulted in significant casualties and destruction in Gaza, with rescue operations continuing to recover the bodies of missing individuals. Israeli forces remain active in demolishing Hamas tunnels in the region.

Gaza health authorities have confirmed a high number of casualties from the Israeli strikes, with many individuals still unaccounted for. The situation remains tense, with Israeli forces conducting operations in Gaza amid ongoing concerns about the ceasefire’s sustainability.
