One of the recommendations provided to the Canadian women’s hockey team to prevent the norovirus outbreak that has impacted their sport early in Milano Cortina 2026.

Due to a norovirus spread among the Finnish team, Canada’s initial match against Finland was rescheduled to Feb. 12.

While a Swiss player was also quarantined due to the stomach virus, Canada’s scheduled game against Switzerland on Saturday night was anticipated to proceed.

“The key was to be extremely vigilant in the communal areas within the village,” stated Canadian women’s team forward Blayre Turnbull on Saturday.

“Particularly in the dining hall, certain items are shared among all nations. Normally, you receive your food from the staff, but there are communal items like salad dressings that are shared.”

General Manager of Canada’s women’s Olympic hockey team, Gina Kingsbury, mentioned that discussions were held about postponing their first game following the norovirus outbreak in the Finnish team. ‘Forfeiting was never discussed,’ she clarified, emphasizing that the decision to delay was in the spirit of the Games.
