Prime Minister Mark Carney is embarking on a nine-day journey to Malaysia, Singapore, and South Korea at the end of the month to participate in two international summits. Carney’s itinerary includes the Association of Southeast Asian Nations Summit in Kuala Lumpur, where he will engage in discussions on trade with the Malaysian prime minister. Following this summit, he will convene with Singapore’s prime minister and local business leaders to explore avenues for eliminating trade barriers and attracting global investments. Carney’s tour will culminate in South Korea, where he will participate in a meeting of Asia-Pacific economic leaders in Gyeongju. Notably, he intends to visit Hanwha Ocean’s shipyard in South Korea, one of the two contenders vying for a contract to construct new Canadian submarines. The journey through Asia is scheduled from October 24 to November 1.
