Premier Scott Moe expressed excitement about the upcoming event, emphasizing the strong fan base and community pride that Saskatchewan has for its football team. Saskatchewan Roughriders president Craig Reynolds acknowledged the support from the City of Regina and the province in securing the 2027 Grey Cup bid.
Regina Mayor Chad Bachynski’s spokesperson confirmed that the City of Regina has pledged $1.5 million in cash and in-kind contributions for the Grey Cup, including support for transit shuttles and policing services.
The 2027 Grey Cup is expected to be a memorable event, with Bachynski promising a welcoming atmosphere for both dedicated fans and first-time visitors. The organizers are optimistic that the upcoming championship game will be a standout occasion.
The Saskatchewan Roughriders, founded in 1910, have previously hosted the Grey Cup four times, most recently in 2022. The 2027 game is scheduled for November 7, a week earlier than usual, and will be the fifth championship held in Regina and the second at the new Mosaic Stadium.
Anticipation is high as the Roughriders prepare to host the Grey Cup once again. In 2013, the team claimed victory on home turf in front of a passionate crowd of 44,000 fans.
This year’s Grey Cup will take place in Winnipeg on November 16, with Calgary hosting the event in 2026. CFL Commissioner Stewart Johnston commended the collaborative effort of the Saskatchewan Roughriders, the province, the City of Regina, and local hotel operators in securing the 2027 bid.
The 2027 Grey Cup festival will be a unique experience as it will be hosted entirely indoors for the first time, including the street festival. Johnston highlighted the convenience of an indoor setting, making it a compelling feature for attendees.
While the CFL does not disclose details of other bidding teams, Johnston praised Saskatchewan’s bid as “truly outstanding” and emphasized the strong football culture in the province.
