An investigation is currently ongoing in connection with an accusation made by Australian actress Ruby Rose against Katy Perry of sexual assault at a nightclub years ago. The American singer denies the claim. The Victoria state police in Australia are looking into allegations of a “historical sexual assault” that took place in Melbourne around 2010, aligning with Rose’s account of an incident at the Spice Market Nightclub “almost two decades ago.” Rose made the accusation in response to a post by Complex Music about Perry’s reaction to Justin Bieber’s performance at Coachella on Threads. Perry’s representatives have refuted the allegations, stating that Rose has a history of making unsubstantiated claims on social media.

Rose, aged 40, detailed the alleged incident in a series of posts, stating that it occurred when she was in her early 20s. She described Perry’s actions as inappropriate and disturbing, claiming that Perry later offered assistance in obtaining her U.S. visa, leading Rose to keep the incident private. Perry, who was recently seen at the Coachella music festival with her partner, former prime minister Justin Trudeau, has not publicly commented on the matter. Rose mentioned that it took her nearly two decades to speak out about the incident and expressed gratitude for finding her voice. The posts containing the allegations have since been removed.

The police have refrained from providing further comments on the ongoing investigation. CBC News has reached out to both parties for statements without receiving responses. Rose initially stated that she did not intend to file a police report and emphasized the importance of sharing her experience. The article contains sensitive content related to sexual violence, which may impact individuals with personal experiences or connections to such events.
