Golden State Warriors’ standout player Jimmy Butler is set to undergo surgery and sit out the rest of the season due to an ACL tear in his right knee sustained in the third quarter of a 135-112 win against his former team, the Miami Heat.
The team confirmed the news before their upcoming match against the Toronto Raptors. Butler was injured on Monday night following a collision with Heat’s Davion Mitchell shortly after receiving a pass in the paint. Despite the impact, Butler remained in good spirits, prompting coach Steve Kerr to express concern while awaiting the MRI results.
Following the diagnosis of a torn ACL, the Warriors are now faced with the challenge of navigating the remainder of the season without Butler, particularly with the trade deadline approaching in two weeks. Butler’s knee buckled upon landing, leading to visible discomfort, and he had to be assisted off the court by teammates Gary Payton II and Buddy Hield.
Despite the setback, Butler had contributed significantly to the game, scoring 17 points on 6-for-11 shooting, along with four assists and three rebounds in under 21 minutes of play. Kerr praised Butler’s leadership and on-court impact, highlighting his absence as a significant loss for the team.
Teammate Stephen Curry commended Butler’s positive attitude even in the face of adversity, noting his resilience and humor during the injury ordeal. The Warriors will now need to adjust their game plan and rely on their depth to compensate for Butler’s absence in the lineup.
