The upcoming summer will mark the commencement of the largest television production project ever to grace Prince Edward Island. With an investment of $5 million from the province in the form of a rebate, the acclaimed romance novel “This Summer Will Be Different” by Canadian author Carley Fortune will be adapted into a 10-episode series. The filming will take place in P.E.I. and Toronto.
During the recent announcement in Victoria, Robin Neinstein, the director of production management at Netflix Canada, expressed the significance of filming on the Island for this project. He emphasized that P.E.I. is not just a backdrop in the book but a vital character within the storyline. Neinstein highlighted the unique essence of the location, stating that there is no substitute for the island’s charm, and the team is excited to film there this summer.
The production will involve hiring 75 individuals for various roles such as production assistants, painters, and caterers. Rob Riselli, the executive director of Film P.E.I., mentioned that the series will serve as a platform to showcase the beauty of the Island and could attract more productions to the region, ultimately benefiting the local economy.
Premier Rob Lantz hailed the announcement as a significant development for Prince Edward Island’s arts and culture sector and economic growth. He emphasized the opportunity to exhibit the wonders of the island to a global audience through this production, which will authentically capture the essence of Prince Edward Island.
Jenn Redmond, the minister of economic development in P.E.I., viewed the filming of “This Summer Will Be Different” in the province as a strategic investment in the local arts and culture industry, elevating P.E.I.’s presence on the global stage. She expressed enthusiasm about the partnership with Netflix and the potential impact on the province’s position in the film industry.
In response to concerns raised by the Opposition regarding the production’s uncertainty, Premier Lantz reassured that the project is set to move forward without any doubts.
