The peculiar saga began with timber harvesters noticing a large animal moving around the woods in County Clare, Ireland. Limited sightings led to speculation until a truck driver captured the animal on camera last week. The viral video showcased a brown animal with distinct features dashing into the forest, sparking intrigue and confusion.
Although lions are not native to Ireland’s forests, O’Reilly was compelled to investigate further, leading him to report the incident to local authorities. An Garda Síochána, Ireland’s national police force, confirmed that the “lion” was, in fact, a creatively groomed Newfoundland dog named Mouse. The dog’s owners remain unidentified, prompting questions about the unconventional haircut.
O’Reilly speculated that Mouse may have received the lion cut for Halloween festivities, considering the dog’s striking appearance. While the viral video amused many, experts cautioned against shaving Newfoundland dogs’ coats for non-medical reasons due to potential health risks.
