A seismic event of magnitude 5.6 has occurred beneath the ocean near Vancouver Island. According to Earthquakes Canada, the tremor took place at 11:41 p.m. PT on Sunday, approximately 219 kilometers southwest of Port Hardy on the northern edge of Vancouver Island. The earthquake struck at a depth of around 10 kilometers below the ocean floor, and authorities have confirmed that there is no tsunami threat.

The epicenter of the earthquake is in close proximity to several significant communities on Vancouver Island, such as Campbell River, located about 300 kilometers away, and Port Alberni, approximately 330 kilometers distant. Reports indicate that the seismic activity was felt as far as Metro Vancouver, over 450 kilometers southeast of the epicenter, with reports of shaking also coming from northern Vancouver Island.
