The Terrebonne riding will witness a rematch between Nathalie Sinclair-Desgagné of the Bloc Québécois and Liberal candidate Tatiana Auguste, following the recent invalidation of last year’s election result by the Supreme Court. Bloc leader Yves-François Blanchet introduced Sinclair-Desgagné as their candidate, praising her unwavering determination. Meanwhile, the Liberals officially selected Auguste for the Montreal-area riding.

During the federal election on April 28, Elections Canada initially declared Auguste as the winner over Sinclair-Desgagné by a single vote. However, Sinclair-Desgagné contested the outcome after a supporter pointed out that her attempt to vote via mail using a special ballot was overlooked. She successfully appealed the decision in the Supreme Court on February 13.

With the Liberal Party being three seats shy of a majority government, the Terrebonne riding is among the three constituencies set for a byelection in the upcoming months. Prime Minister Mark Carney is yet to announce the specific date for the byelections in Terrebonne and the two vacant Toronto ridings.
