On Day 5 of the Winter Olympics, Canada is poised to potentially secure its first figure skating medal since 2018. The day will also feature the commencement of two highly anticipated events: men’s hockey and men’s curling.

In the men’s super-G event at 5:30 a.m. ET, Canadian alpine skiers Jack Crawford and Cam Alexander aim to capitalize on their previous successes. While Crawford clinched gold in the 2023 world championships in the super-G, Alexander boasts five career World Cup medals in downhill. The competition will be fierce, with Switzerland’s Franjo von Allmen vying for his third gold of the Games.

Freestyle skiing will showcase Maïa Schwinghammer in the women’s moguls final at 8:15 a.m. ET. Schwinghammer, hailing from Saskatoon, aims to replicate her past victories as she competes alongside other Canadian hopefuls.

Speed skating will feature Laurent Dubreuil in the men’s 1,000m event at 12:30 p.m. ET. While Dubreuil seeks redemption after narrowly missing the podium in previous championships, he faces stiff competition from American prodigy Jordan Stolz.

Figure skating enthusiasts can look forward to Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier’s performance in the ice dance free skate at 1:30 p.m. ET. The duo eyes their first Olympic podium, with tough competition from international rivals.

Additionally, men’s hockey kicks off with Slovakia vs. Finland at 10:40 a.m. ET, followed by Sweden vs. Italy at 3:10 p.m. ET. The tournament, now featuring NHL players, promises thrilling matchups and intense competition.

Men’s curling also commences, with Brad Jacobs leading the Canadian team in their quest for Olympic gold. As the traditional four-player events begin, spectators can anticipate exciting gameplay and fierce rivalries on the ice.
