The Canadian-produced hockey series, “Heated Rivalry,” has added three new cast members for its upcoming second season. The show, which gained international popularity in its first season and launched the careers of its lead actors, has announced new additions to the ensemble.
The fresh faces joining the cast include Milla Jovovich, known for her roles in the “Resident Evil” franchise and “The Fifth Element,” Kevin Zegers, recognized for his work in “Gossip Girl” and “Transamerica,” and Paul Gross, a prominent figure in Canadian film and television.
The series, inspired by Nova Scotia author Rachel Reid’s “Game Changers” books, centers around the clandestine love affair between two competitive ice hockey players, Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov. Paul Gross will portray hockey league commissioner Roger Crowell, Kevin Zegers will play Coach Wiebe, and Milla Jovovich will take on the role of Dr. Galina Molchalina.
Additionally, familiar faces from Season 1 are set to return, including Robbie G.K., Sophie Nélisse, Christina Chang, and Dylan Walsh. The show has also enlisted a host of Canadian talent for the new season, with notable additions such as Charlie Gillespie, Daniel Diemer, Emily Hampshire, and Priyanka.
Emily Hampshire, who plays Vanessa in the series, expressed her excitement for the show, comparing its success to that of “Schitt’s Creek,” which swept the comedy categories at the 2020 Primetime Emmy Awards. Despite its acclaim, “Heated Rivalry” is not eligible for this year’s Primetime Emmys but has garnered recognition at the Canadian Screen Awards.
The series’ creator, Jacob Tierney, has confirmed that filming for the second season has commenced, with a scheduled premiere on Crave in Spring 2027.
