Following this, some students transitioned to creating visual presentations, while others explored colorful screens to delve into a food-related unit. A few students also dived into programming small robots.

Artificial intelligence elements were integrated into the activities, with Grade 7 students closely supervised by their teacher. The Anglophone East School District has been progressively incorporating AI into its educational framework over the past few years. Recently, more schools in New Brunswick have followed suit after the Department of Education updated the anglophone K-12 curriculum to include AI education.

Amid growing concerns and debates worldwide surrounding the use of AI in educational settings, New Brunswick has taken a deliberate approach to integrating AI into the curriculum. Educators aim to provide age-appropriate instruction on AI and encourage critical thinking about the technology.

Starting from kindergarten, students are introduced to fundamental digital literacy concepts through classroom discussions. As students progress, they engage with digital tools like tablets, but AI usage in the curriculum is carefully regulated to ensure appropriate content and platforms are utilized.

Professional development for teachers is a key focus in New Brunswick, with educators receiving training and support to effectively incorporate AI into their teaching practices. The province has also rolled out learning modules on AI for teachers.

The updated curriculum emphasizes safe and ethical AI utilization in schools, fostering AI literacy among students. The Education Minister highlighted the importance of maintaining a balance between AI integration and traditional literacy and numeracy skills.

The inclusion of AI in schools remains a learning process for both educational institutions and families, with ongoing efforts to navigate the complexities and implications of this technological advancement. Concerns have been raised about the potential impact of AI on critical thinking skills and the need for careful consideration and guidance in AI implementation in educational environments.
