Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime has advanced to the final of the European Open after defeating Belgium’s Raphael Collignon 7-6 (2), 6-4 in the tournament’s semifinals. Auger-Aliassime demonstrated a strong performance, serving eight aces and only committing one double fault, securing a 78% first-serve points win rate. He successfully capitalized on one of his three break-point opportunities during the one-hour, 45-minute match. On the other hand, Collignon, despite delivering five aces, struggled with four double faults and failed to create any break-point chances.
Auger-Aliassime, seeded second, is set to face off against third-seeded Jiri Lehecka from Czechia in the final showdown scheduled for Sunday.
In another match, Canada’s Denis Shapovalov faced a setback in the semifinals of the Stockholm Open as he lost 6-3, 6-4 to Norway’s Casper Ruud. Shapovalov, seeded third, managed six aces and four double faults but only converted one of his five break-point opportunities. On the contrary, Ruud, the second seed, recorded two aces and double faults each, converting three out of six break-point chances.
Ruud is now geared up to compete against France’s Ugo Humbert in the upcoming final after Humbert received a walkover victory against top-seeded Holger Rune of Denmark, who sustained an injury during the second set.
