A former employee of Beast Industries has filed a lawsuit against MrBeast’s media company, alleging wrongful termination after returning from maternity leave and facing years of sexual harassment and gender bias in the workplace. The lawsuit, brought by Lorrayne Mavromatis in federal court in North Carolina, claims violations of federal law regarding job-protected leave for childbirth. Mavromatis also lodged a complaint with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission citing discrimination based on sex, pregnancy, and retaliation.

According to Mavromatis, she worked continuously post-childbirth, including during her stay in the delivery room, and was abruptly fired less than three weeks after resuming full-time work. A spokesperson for Beast Industries dismissed the lawsuit as a publicity-seeking ploy, stating that Mavromatis was let go due to restructuring under a new ecommerce leader.

The lawsuit sheds light on the internal culture at Beast Industries, portraying a toxic and misogynistic workplace that the company has been attempting to address amid its expansion into new ventures like television and financial services. The company had faced scrutiny in the past for issues related to workplace harassment and misconduct, leading to the dismissal of several employees following an investigation.

Mavromatis’s legal action comes at a time when MrBeast’s media empire is on the rise, with endeavors beyond YouTube and an expanding workforce. The lawsuit also coincides with a prestigious recognition for MrBeast at the Time100 event, highlighting the ongoing challenges within the company’s working environment.

The lawsuit highlighted the intense work culture at Beast Industries, where employees were reportedly expected to go to great lengths to fulfill their duties. Mavromatis recounted instances of extreme work demands, including attending a meeting from her hospital bed during labor, out of fear of losing her job if she refused.

Allegations of sexual harassment and workplace issues were raised in the lawsuit, indicating a need for accountability and change within the company. Time’s Up Legal Defense Fund has pledged support for Mavromatis’s case, emphasizing the importance of addressing workplace harassment and creating a safe environment for all employees.
