Justin Timberlake encountered difficulties while undergoing field sobriety assessments involving walking in a straight line and balancing on one leg during a traffic stop in the Hamptons, New York, in 2024. Video evidence released recently shows the pop star commenting on the challenging nature of the tests.
The footage, spanning approximately eight hours, captures Timberlake being pulled over by Sag Harbor police after allegedly running a stop sign, swerving out of his lane, and emitting an alcohol odor from his BMW in June of that year. Timberlake informed officers that he had consumed a single martini and was trailing friends in the upscale Hamptons village, situated about 160 kilometers east of New York City.
During the encounter, Timberlake mentioned he was on a world tour when questioned by an officer. Despite initial difficulty explaining his activities, he eventually identified himself as Justin Timberlake. The officer inquired about his driver’s license, to which Timberlake responded.
Following Timberlake’s admission of guilt to a reduced charge, officers instructed him to perform tasks like walking heel-to-toe in a straight line and raising a leg. Timberlake appeared flustered at times, apologizing for his nervousness and rapid heartbeat.
Upon being informed of his overnight detention at the police station, Timberlake expressed surprise and requested the cell light remain on. Subsequently, Sag Harbor authorities decided to release a redacted version of the video footage after legal disputes regarding privacy concerns were resolved.
As part of his impaired driving plea deal in September 2024, Timberlake delivered a public service announcement cautioning against impaired driving, received a non-criminal traffic violation, a $500 fine, 25 hours of community service, and a 90-day driving license suspension.
